Vol. 471 No. 7

Request for Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of related notices under Standing Order 31 from Deputies Dan Wallace and Quill. I shall call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I wish to raise under Standing Order 31 the impending closure of the Irish Crown Cork Company Limited plant at Churchfield at Cork and the loss of 110 jobs.

I call now on Deputy Quill. Is she present?

She has just disembarked from the Cork train and will be here shortly.

Since Deputy Quill is not present I have to say that, having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Will the Minister for Enterprise and Employment make a statement to the House today regarding the impending closure of this plant at which 110 jobs are at stake? Its employees have loans and other commitments——

I am sure Deputies Dan Wallace and Quill will find other ways and means of raising this matter and have it dealt with appropriately.
