Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Payment to Employee.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

284 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will have arrangements made to expedite the payments due to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 4 as soon as possible. [22439/96]

The Holidays (Employees) Acts, 1973 and 1991 provide a statutory minimum entitlement to annual leave and public holidays for eligible employees.

A complaint under the above Acts from the employee concerned was received in my Department on 3 September 1996. When the employer did not respond to a number of subsequent written requests for payment of the sum due, I had an inspection of the employer's records carried out. A statement was subsequently taken from the complainant in the case on Monday, 25 November 1996 as no payment had been made. If the matter is not ultimately finalised satisfactorily the case will be referred to my legal advisers for consideration as to the institution of legal proceedings, if appropriate.
My Department will endeavour to have the matter expedited as quickly as possible and will keep the complainant informed of developments as they arise.
