288 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the statistics for unemployed persons in the Buncrana area of County Donegal on 1 November in each of the years from 1993 to 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22597/96]
Definitive statistics on the level of unemployment are based on the labour force survey. Unfortunately, labour force survey results are not available for small areas. The live register provides monthly data on claimants for unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance and other registrants classified by local office of registration but it is not an accurate indicator of the level of unemployment. The number of persons on the live register at the Buncrana local office on the last Friday of October 1993 to 1996, was as follows:
