Vol. 472 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív. I call on the Deputy to state the matter on which he has given notice to me.

De bharr an eolais mhí-chruinn a tugadh d'oileánaigh i bhfógraí poiblí agus ar na cártaí vótála, an gá atá ann go gcinnteoidh an tAire Chomhshaoil go n-osclófar na bothanna vótála ar na h-oileáin ar an Déardaoin, an 28ú Samhain, 1996 le cinntiú go mbeidh deis ag oileánaigh vótáil ar an lá a fógraíodh.

In view of the incorrect information given to islanders in both public notices and polling cards, there is a need for the Minister for the Environment to ensure that polling booths are open on the offshore islands on 28 November 1996 to ensure that all islanders have an opportunity to vote on the day advertised.

Is oth liom a rá nach féidir liom cead a thabhairt an tairiscint a dhéanamh. Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Tá vótáil ar siúl amárach. Séanadh ceart bunreachtúil vótála ar na h-oileánaigh tré eolas mí-chruinn a thabhairt dóibh. Beidh sé ro-mhall amárach nó an tseachtain seo chugainn an cheist seo a thógáil sa Dáil. Tá íontas orm nach bhfuil tú sásta a chinntiú go mbeidh a gcearta bunreachtúil ag na hoileánaigh.

Beidh seans eile ag an Teachta. There are many ways of raising this matter and my office will be glad to facilitate the Deputy in that regard.
