Ceist:

257 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of livestock boats which have been sanctioned by his Department for livestock carriage in 1996; the owners of such boats; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22946/96]

At present, eight vessels are approved for the carriage of cattle by sea from Ireland. It is not the practice to publish details of individual approvals given by the Department in such circumstances.

Ceist:

258 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of livestock vehicles which have been sanctioned by his Department for livestock transport overseas in 1996; the owners of such vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22949/96]

A total of 65 livestock vehicles have been approved by my Department in accordance with the Diseases of Animals Act (Protection of Animals during Transport) Order, 1995, 24 of which were approved in 1996. I do not propose to release the names of the owners of these vehicles.
