32 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the proposals, if any, he has to bring responsibility for employment services and employment compensation under the auspices of his Department; and his views on whether such streamlining of the services would be advantageous. I am responsible for employment services. I have no proposals to assume responsibility for employment compensation payments, which in any case would be a matter for the Government as a whole.
An interdepartmental Strategy Group on Employment and Unemployment is currently addressing the issues raised by the recent CSO publication on unemployment statistics. As part of this process there is increased co-operation between FÁS and the Department of Social Welfare, including more effective data exchange.
