Ceist:

108 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the Inis Mór public water supply improvements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23502/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 106 and 108 together.

The Inis Mór water supply scheme is one of the projects included in an application to the European Commission for Cohesion Fund assistance for water and sewerage schemes under Stage 1 of the Connemara Environment Project. To date no decision has been received. Pending the Commission's decision, and having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the schemes included in the application. Last year my Department approved a grant of £150,962 for site investigation works, including the drilling of test wells at Turloughmore. These are currently being used to augment the island's supply during periods of peak demand.
