Vol. 472 No. 4

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

80 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if his Department has completed a survey on flooding in the Dunmanway area of County Cork; and if his Department intends making funds available for the drainage works on the Bandon and Caha rivers. [23456/96]

It is expected that work on design proposals, including cost benefit analysis and environmental impact assessment for a scheme to alleviate flooding in Dunmanway, County Cork, will be finalised in the coming weeks. The Commissioners of Public Works will then have documentation for this scheme prepared in accordance with the arterial drainage legislation. It is envisaged that the scheme will go on public exhibition early next year with a view to works commencing on site in late spring 1997.

The works proposed comprise mainly construction of embankments along parts of the Bandon River which abuts Dunmanway. No drainage works are planned for either the Bandon or Caha Rivers. Funds for the implementation of this scheme will be included in the Estimates, subhead L2 of Vote 10, Office of Public Works, in 1997.
