Vol. 472 No. 4

Written Answers. - Galway Hospice Funding.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

94 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the funding to be made available in 1996 to Galway Hospice, Renmore, Galway. [23503/96]

Limerick East): Earlier this year, I asked the Galway Hospice foundation and the Western Health Board to enter into discussions on mutually acceptable uses for the inpatient facility in the purpose built hospice building. To this end, I allocated a sum of £100,000 to the board to enable negotiations to proceed on a substantive basis.

I understand that the health board's negotiations with the foundation have not yet reached a conclusion and the allocation of £100,000 has not been taken up. The required level of funding for the hospice is a matter in the first instance for discussion between the foundation and the health board; and then, if appropriate, between the health board and my Department.
