Vol. 473 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Mayo Licensed Premises.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

74 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the number of seven-day licensed premises in County Mayo; the number of six-day licensed premises in County Mayo; and the number of each actively in operation. [24297/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that according to official records there are 627 seven-day licences and 30 six-day licences in respect of premises in County Mayo. During the licensing year, which ended on 30 September, 1996, 588 seven-day licences and 25 six-say licences were issued by Customs and Excise. Of the 39 seven-day licences not renewed, 26 premises were not trading and detections for unlicensed trading were made in respect of eight premises. The position with regard to the remaining five premises is under investigation. The premises in respect of the five six-day licences not renewed were not trading. Licences not renewed before 30 September 1996 now require production of Circuit Court certificates.

In the current licensing year — 1 October 1996 to 30 September 1997 — 355 seven-day licences and 14 six-day licences have been renewed todate. Licensing for the current year is ongoing and non-renewals are being actively pursued by Revenue.

I am also informed by the Revenue Commissioners that records are not maintained with regard to whether premises, in respect of which licences have been renewed or those which remain to be renewed in the current licensing year, are actively operating.
