Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

253 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties for salmon farm owners in isolated areas such as Rosroe, Renvyle, County Galway, who cannot gain access to landing piers due to the poor condition of access roads in many cases; if he will make a special road fund allocation to maritime counties in order that salmon farm companies can gain access to their shore bases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1255/97]

I recently allocated £9.892 million in grants for non-national roads to Galway County Council, including £1.333 million in discretionary grants and £6.609 million in restoration programme grants. The council has wide discretion as to how both of these latter grants are expended, subject only to guidelines issued by my Department. Non-national road grants have now been fully allocated and there are no additional sources of funding available to me from which special grants could be made.
