Vol. 473 No. 4
356 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education whether the construction stage of a proposed extension to a school (details supplied) in County Mayo will commence in 1997; and the date on which construction will commence. [1276/97]
An extension is currently being planned for this school.
Architectural planning is proceeding and the bill of quantities for this project was examined by my Department's technical staff. The school's design team were requested to make amendments to the bill of quantities and these amendments were submitted to the Department on 16 January 1997. The revised submission is currently being examined by the Department's technical staff. When the revised bill of quantities is approved, the question of inviting tenders for this extension will be considered.
The question of allowing the project to proceed to construction will be considered in the context of the capital allocation for post-primary building purposes in 1997.
357 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has for the provision of a new national school at Dunderrow, Kinsale, County Cork. [1277/97]
I approved the inclusion of a new school building for Dunderrow national school in my Department's 1995 primary school capital programme. The inclusion of the project enables it to progress through architectural planning.
A planning application has been submitted in respect of this school. On receipt of planning permission, the project will be progressed to tender stage. At that stage, a decision on the timing of the tender process will be taken in the light of funds available.
358 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a full and current report on the extension which will provide a new canteen and locker rooms at Kells community school, County Meath. [1288/97]
An extension of 476 square metres, to cater for an overall enrolment of 650 pupils, has been approved for Kells community school.
