Vol. 475 No. 5

Written Answers - Jobs Opportunity Programme.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

184 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current situation on the CORI part time jobs opportunity programme which employs 1,000 nationally and a number in the Finglas area, Dublin 11; the future of this scheme; if the numbers employed will be increased; if it will be operated on a nationwide basis; the management procedures which will be put in place; when definite decisions will be announced in view of the fact that the participants are concerned with the threat hanging over them; the current position in respect of participants, supervisors and area managers. [5399/97]

The CORI part-time job opportunities programme is a three year pilot programme which was scheduled to end in June 1997. Given that there will be wind down issues and that some individual projects did not start on time it will be end September before the project is completely finished. Funding is being made available in 1997 which will allow for the pilot programme to be completed.

An evaluation of the pilot programme has just been completed, and I am now considering the consultant's findings and whether there are any elements of the pilot programme which could be absorbed into mainstream programmes.
