Vol. 476 No. 3

Written Answers. - Companies Registration Office.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

148 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the reason for the delay and the unsatisfactory situation which has arisen in the Companies Registration Office in relation to the delay in the registration of new companies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7044/97]

As a result of technical problems which arose with the Companies Registration Office's computer system, a limited number of the CRO's services were unavailable since Monday, 24 February. The most significant of these was the registration of new companies. When the problem occurred, the Companies Registration Office undertook immediate and urgent remedial works to correct it. However, the work involved was complex, and took some time. I am happy to advise that the problem has been rectified, and a normal service has been restored. Work has commenced on clearing the documents which have built up in the company incorporation area. This should be completed in a week or so.
