Ceist:115 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if RTE will take over the maintenance of a transmitter (details supplied) in County Mayo. [7529/97]
Written Answers - Transmitter Maintenance.
This is primarily a matter for RTE. I have no statutory function in the establishment or maintenance of broadcasting stations.
RTE informs me the transmitter at Shramore, County Mayo is a community-owned self-help system which was assisted by RTE on the condition that the local community would pay the maintenance and running costs. RTE also informs me of its ongoing policy of taking over the self-help schemes, giving priority to those schemes serving larger numbers of viewers. RTE reports that it does not expect to be in a position to take over the Shramore scheme for a number of years.
