Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Tax Rebate.

John Ellis

Ceist:

63 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim has been granted a rebate of only £63.10; and if he will make a statement on the reason it is so low. [7429/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the amount of tax refunded to the taxpayer is correct on the basis of the information currently available.

The taxpayer's tax free allowances in the current year amount to £3,500. His total income is £6,287. This includes amounts in respect of unemployment benefit and disability benefit which are both taxable although paid gross, without deduction of tax, by the Department of Social Welfare. The amount of tax due on his total income is £752.49, while the amount of tax paid was £815.59. The refund of £63.10 is therefore correct.
