Written Answers. - Mobile Telephones.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

357 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total cost of mobile telephones and their use for the year ending 1996 for personnel working in his Department; and the estimated costs for 1997. [8537/97]

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

367 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of personnel working in his office on a non-established basis; and the number of such personnel who have unlimited use of mobile telephones which are charged to or reimbursed by his Department. [8282/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 357 and 367 together.

There are three staff working in my office on a non-established basis. Two of these staff have been supplied with mobile telephones. Itemised bills are obtained and the cost of calls made in connection with their official duties are paid for by the Department. Calls which are identified as personal are paid for by the individuals themselves.

The total cost incurred by my Department in 1996 in respect of mobile telephones was £22,621.85. The estimated cost for 1997 will be a broadly similar figure.
