Brendan Smith

Ceist:

66 Mr. B. Smith asked the Taoiseach the national average retail prices for leaded petrol, unleaded petrol and auto diesel for mid-January 1997 and mid-February 1997. [8360/97]

National average retail prices for leaded petrol, unleaded petrol and auto diesel are available from the compilation of the consumer price index — CPI. The CPI was compiled on a quarterly basis in respect of the middle Tuesday of the months February, May, August and November each year up until the end of 1996. From January 1997 onward the CPI is being compiled on a monthly basis.

The national average prices per litre at mid-January 1997 and mid-February 1997 for leaded petrol were £0.646 and £0.665, for unleaded petrol £0.603 and £0.618 and for auto-diesel £0.580 and £0.591.
