Vol. 477 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

138 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated cost of staff in his ministerial offices, such as programme managers, advisers, support staff and other such related costs for 1997; and the comparative figures for 1993 and 1987. [9331/97]

For the purposes of this reply support staff is taken to mean personal assistants and personal secretaries.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 124 which he tabled on Thursday, 20 March 1997. The estimated costs for my special adviser, personal assistant and personal secretary in 1997 is covered in that reply. The estimated cost of my programme manager who is an established civil servant, in 1997 is approximately £46,000.

The costs of such staff, including the partnership programme manager, in 1993 were approximately £90,400.
The costs for 1987 are included in my reply to Question No. 27 on Wednesday, 27 November 1996.
The costs furnished refer to salaries and allowances. Employer's PRSI costs and overtime costs are not included as the corresponding figures are not available for 1987.
