Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

235 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department has received an application from Dublin Corporation under the remedial works scheme in respect of a proposal to undertake major works at Liberty House, Dublin 1; if he will approve the application; if so, the amount of money being provided for this purpose; the exact nature of the works to be undertaken at Liberty House; and when work will commence. [13864/97]

An application in respect of Liberty House has been received and the project has been designated for funding under the remedial works scheme. It involves general refurbishment of some 181 pre-1940 flats together with the provision of 14 new housing units at a total cost of some £7 million. The work will be phased over three years. The corporation has recently clarified its proposals for the implementation of work at this location and a decision on the application for approval to the seeking of tenders will issue as soon as possible.

Over £65 million has been allocated to the corporation to date in respect of designated projects under the RWS. This includes an allocation of £7 million in 1997. The apportionment of this allocation between approved projects is a matter for the corporation.
