246 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment the current position in relation to the provision of national and EU funds for the proposed west Waterford regional water supply; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14038/97]
My Department recently issued guidelines to county councils, including Waterford County Council, for the preparation of strategic rural water plans. These plans will deal with the provision of an adequate supply of quality water to rural areas. My Department wrote to Waterford County Council on 1 July 1997 informing them that proposals for the west Waterford regional water supply scheme will now have to be addressed in the context of the preparation of their strategic rural water plan. Eighty six thousand pounds is being provided to Waterford County Council in 1997 to assist in this work.
