288 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to alter the rules for the governing of prisons in relation to the granting of remission of sentences in debtors' cases and the powers to grant periods of temporary release to persons imprisoned for non-payment of maintenance in family law cases. I have no plans at present to propose any amendments to legislation governing the remission of sentences in debtors' cases or the powers of the Minister for Justice to grant temporary release to persons imprisoned for non-payment of maintenance in family law cases.

I might also mention that I propose to consider a scheme of attachment of earnings in debt cases.
