Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

289 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current permanent number of gardaí at Lucan Garda station, County Dublin; and the way in which this compares with the years from 1994 to date in 1997. [13453/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the strength of Lucan Garda station for the years 1994 to 1997 is as follows:

Year

Number of gardaí (all ranks)

31-12-1994

51

31-12-1995

52

31-12-1996

54

30-6-1997

57*

* Includes one chief superintendent, one superintendent and four inspectors who were assigned to Lucan following the recent creation of the DMA West Division which resulted in the upgrading of Lucan Garda station to district status. Until the completion of the building of the new station at Blanchardstown the station at Lucan will be the temporary divisional headquarters.
