Ceist:299 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the time scale, if any, for the installation of security cameras in an area (details supplied) in Dublin 1. [13809/97]

The Garda CCTV System for the O'Connell Street area will also provide camera coverage of the areas referred to by the Deputy. While work on the system is at an advanced stage, progress in respect of some locations, including those identified by the Deputy, is dependent on securing wayleave and-or planning approval for the camera sites concerned. Provided that these matters can be finalised soon, it is envisaged that security cameras will be installed and commissioned in the sites referred to in the Deputy's question at the earliest opportunity.
