Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

309 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will ensure that Ballynoe Garda station, County Cork, is open to the public for at least a number of hours each day. [13879/97]

The opening hours of individual Garda stations as well as the detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to different areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that at present there are two gardaí assigned to Ballynoe Garda station and that when either of these members is on duty the station opens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays and from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Sundays. When the station is unmanned, a direct communications facility which is linked to the District Headquarters at Fermoy comes into operation. The sub-district is, of course, also covered by mobile patrols.

The Garda authorities have assured me that the current Garda service in Ballynoe is adequate to meet the present policing needs of the area.
