Written Answers - Rented Accommodation Regulations.

Ceist:

353 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the numbers of persons registered under the registration of rented houses regulations, 1996, in each of the county borough council areas; if he intends to review the operation of the regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Molloy):

The numbers of landlords and rented dwellings registered at 30 June 1997, the most recent date for which figures are available in my Department, under the Housing (Registration of Rented Houses) Regulations, 1996 in the county borough corporation areas were as follows:

Cork Corporation	355	752
Dublin Corporation	3,770	8,007
Galway Corporation	1,152	1,585
Limerick Corporation	285	514
Waterford Corporation	194	363

There are no plans to amend the regulations at this stage. Their administration by local authorities will, however, continue to be monitored.
