Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Television Reception.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

448 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the reason for the delay in installing a transposer in the Glenflesk and Headford area of County Kerry in order to improve television reception in the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15001/97]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.

However, in accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of national broadcasting services.
RTE informs me that the position is that it has sought tenders for the construction of the mast base for the Glenflesk/Headford transposer. RTE report that it is hoped, subject to the usual factors such as weather conditions and the timely completion of contract work, that the transposer will be on-air for Christmas 1997.
