Ceist:

458 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the building of a new Garda station in Ballina, County Mayo, is included on his priority list for construction in 1997; and if so, its position on that list. [14251/97]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 456, 457 and 458 together.

As yet the Office of Public Works has been unable to secure a suitable site for the proposed new Garda station at Ballina. When a site is secured, detailed planning will proceed in line with overall priorities.

Ceist:

461 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the building of a new Garda station in Claremorris, County Mayo, is included on his priority list for construction in 1997; and if so, its position on that list. [14254/97]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 459, 460 and 461 together.

While it was initially proposed to refurbish and extend the Garda station at Claremorris, consideration is now being given to building a new district headquarters on the site of the existing Garda station. The legal formalities to complete the purchase of an adjoining strip of land are in train. In the meantime, the brief of requirements is under review by Garda management. It is not possible to say when the work will be carried out. However, detailed planning will proceed in line with overall priorities.
