Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Kirk — the need to reconsider a recently introduced practice by the Revenue Commissioners where a farmer is liable to be charged interest at the rate of 18.75 per cent unless 90 per cent of his final tax liability at 31 March 1998 is paid by October 1997; (2) Deputy Ellis — the proposed redundancies at Ballinamore Textiles, Ballinamore, County Leitrim; (3) Deputy Donal Moynihan — the need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to report on the progress made in relation to the live cattle and beef trade in Egypt following his recent visit; (4) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to deal with the deplorable state of Cork Street, Dublin 8 which is the last derelict main route to the city centre; (5) Deputy Durkan — the subject matter of Question No. 407 of 30 September 1997; (6) Deputy Ulick Burke — the allocation of £2.5 million approximately in June 1997 for the construction work at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway and the delay in starting work, and (7) Deputy Higgins (Dublin West) — the proliferation of masts for the mobile phone system in both urban and rural areas which is giving rise to serious public concern on environmental and health grounds. The matters raised by Deputies Higgins (Dublin West), Kirk, Ulick Burke and Durkan have been selected for discussion.
