Vol. 480 No. 8

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

99 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that numerous representations have been made to the Western Health Board over the past 12 months regarding a public health nuisance and hazard at Derryvunny, Corrigeenroe, County Roscommon; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that in a reply to a Dáil Deputy dated 10 December 1996, the health board confirmed that water sampling from the area indicated a high level of faecal contamination; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that in a reply to a parliamentary question (details supplied) from his Department in April 1997, the Western Health Board indicated that work to alleviate the problem was expected to be completed shortly; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the public health nuisance still remains and the health board has failed to take any action against the person responsible for the pollution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15233/97]

The Western Health Board has been requested to confirm the current position regarding this matter and advise me accordingly. When the information is received from the board I will communicate further with the Deputy.
