206 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the proposals, if any, she has to commemorate and celebrate Ireland's outstanding heritage and culture in relation to the year 2000; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16240/97]
It is a matter for the Government to decide how best to celebrate the millennium and the Department that will be responsible for leading any projects to be undertaken. No such decision has been taken at this point. The question, therefore, of whether specific cultural or heritage projects will be commissioned to mark the commemoration of the millennium can be addressed only in the context of a Government decision on the millennium celebrations generally.
