Vol. 481 No. 5

Written Answers - Case Against State.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

67 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to a recent newspaper article indicating that a former special adviser to a Minister of State in his Department is taking legal action against the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16533/97]

I am aware of the newspaper report referred to by the Deputy. The position is that the individual involved was employed as a personal secretary to a former Minister of State.

Legal proceedings have not been initiated in this matter against the State. My Department is in correspondence with the legal representative of the former personal secretary concerning certain claims he made for overtime, travel and subsistence expenses.
