Vol. 481 No. 5

Written Answers - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Ceist:

79 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have arrangements made to have a knee replacement operation expedited for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W. [16553/97]

Inquiries have been made from the Adelaide Hospital in relation to the person concerned. The hospital has confirmed the person mentioned is on its orthopaedic waiting list but that it is not possible at this stage to provide an exact date for admission.

The scheduling of surgery is the clinical decision of the consultant concerned. Should the person concerned feel her condition has deteriorated she should contact her general practitioner who would be in the best position to take the matter up with the consultant directly.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

80 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for an eye cataract removal operation in view of the fact that he is in his late 70s, living alone and cannot manage with his failing sight. [16555/97]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Galway is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance. I have asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
