Vol. 481 No. 5

Written Answers - Cancer Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

88 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the criteria which would qualify a person suffering from cancer for emergency admittance to St. Luke's Hospital in Dublin. [16632/97]

The criteria for admission to St. Luke's Hospital on an emergency basis are decided by the consultant in charge.

I have had inquiries made of St. Luke's Hospital and I understand that patients suffering from a severe cancer which, in the judgment of the consultant, constitutes a threat to life or is likely to lead to an impairment in function would warrant emergency admission.
