Vol. 481 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Maintenance.

David Stanton

Ceist:

129 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the maintenance needs, if any, which have been reported to, or have been investigated by, his Department required for the safe and healthy use of a school (details supplied) in County Cork; the steps, if any, he proposes to take to rectify same; and if he will give an estimate on cost and timescale in this regard. [16538/97]

Maintenance of a school is a matter for the school's board of management and should be funded from the annual capitation grant.

The school referred to by the Deputy has applied to my Department for grant-aid for capital improvement works. A report has been sought from the Office of Public Works and when this report is received and considered my Department will be in contact with the school management.
At this stage, I am not in a position to give a timescale and costings for any proposed work.
