Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - Departmental Policies.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

96 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education and Science whether he has set policy priorities for achievement for his Department during his term of office; if so, if he will give details of these priorities; the timeframe within which he proposes that each will be delivered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16667/97]

In An Action Programme for the Millennium the Government has set out a series of ambitious objectives to be achieved in the education area. These include focusing resources on areas of particular need and the active promotion of innovation within our education system.

To this end, we have already announced major new initiatives in areas such as the tackling of early school leaving, curriculum development and the expansion of opportunities in high-skill professions.

I am confident that we will fully implement our programme over the lifetime of this Government.
