99 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science when it is proposed to provide the extension to Abbeyside national school, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16609/97]
Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.
The proposed extension by Abbeyside national school, County Waterford, is included in my Department's capital programme. The project is currently at planning stage.
The school's consultant design team recently completed a revised cost plan for the scheme and this cost plan has been approved by my Department. The school manager has been advised to proceed with an application for planning permission and fire certificate for the project.
When all the necessary planning work is complete a decision will be taken on the timing of the tender and contract process in the light of existing contractual commitments and available capital funding. I am not in a position to give a realistic commencement date for the project at this time.
