126 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current status of the proposal to build a new library in Leixlip, County Kildare; if he will provide the necessary funds for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16742/97]
Proposals for a new branch library in Leixlip, County Kildare have been received in my Department and are being considered. In October 1996, Kildare County Council indicated that proposals for the development of a Library Headquarters/Arts Centre at Newbridge should take priority over the Leixlip proposal. The Newbridge proposals received approval in principle in May of this year and stage 2 (sketch design/cost plan) proposals have been received and are currently being considered.
Having regard to the high level of demand for funding for library proposals generally, it is not possible to indicate when funding may be approved for the Leixlip proposals.
