Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

130 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will publish and make available the report on the public inquiry held on 31 July 1996, on the proposal to construct a sewerage treatment plant in Little Island, County Cork; and if he will meet the residents of Little Island subsequently to discuss the inquiry's findings. [16797/97]

I am at present considering whether to make the inspector's report available. I hope to be in a position to announce my decision in the near future and I will communicate further with the Deputy.

I understand that Cork Corporation has proposed the establishment of a liaison committee, on which the residents would be represented as a means of ensuring that their ongong concerns are taken into account as the corporation progresses the planning and construction of the project. I consider that this is the most appropriate forum to discuss the residents' concerns.

Having made my decision to allow the proposed wastewater treatment plant at Carrigrenan, Little Island, I have no further function in relation to the inquiry and there would, accordingly, be no point in my meeting the residents to discuss it.
