Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - Kilkenny School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

143 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will instruct Bus Éireann to re-route a school bus to facilitate a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in view of the fact that his parents would be prepared to meet any extra costs incurred. [16766/97]

There is no provision under the terms of the primary school transport scheme whereby parents can make contributions towards the cost of extending a service, even where children are fully eligible for transport.

While the bus requested is full to capacity this term, I am pleased to confirm that from the next school term, it will be possible to accommodate the child in question with a service which is 0.2 miles to his nearest pick-up point.

In the meantime, transport can be provided on another service which is 0.6 miles to his nearest pick-up point.
