23 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools which have availed of the new sloped furniture; and the number of schools which have been offered the alternative of flat or sloped desks. [16592/97]
The building unit of my Department has amended the tender documentation for the provision of furniture to include an optional specification for sloped desks. Schools which are entitled to grant-aid for desks as a result of a new school or major extension being provided may choose the specification for sloped desks. It is a matter for individual schools to decide whether or not they wish to avail of this option.
My Department does not keep detailed records of the choices made by schools where specifications for furniture and equipment permit a number of options.
