Ceist:87 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1997 headage premia schemes; and the payments, if any, which have issued to this person to date. [18312/97]

The area aid application of the person named has not yet been cleared so as to allow payment of headage and premium to him. Every effort is being made to clear all area aid applications, other than a small minority of very intractable cases, by the end of this month so that payment can be made in this and other similar cases during the next four to five weeks.
If the area aid application of the person named is found to be in order, he should be paid cattle headage and the advance of suckler cow premium within this period.
He was paid £1,810.13 for first instalment of 1997 ewe premium in July 1997.

Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total number and the total amount of direct payments made to farmers to date in 1997; the total amount and the total number of direct payments made to farmers at 5 November 1996; and the amount paid under each individual scheme for 1996 and to date in 1997. The total number of direct payments made to farmers in 1997 to date in respect of 1997 headage and premia schemes is 618,342 and the total amount paid out in respect of these schemes is £304,667 million. As of the same date last year, 410,767 payments totalling £276.216 million had issued to farmers in respect of 1996 headage and premia schemes.
The table attached shows the position under each individual 1996 scheme up to the end of 1996 and to date in 1997.
