Vol. 482 No. 5

Written Answers - Prescribed Medication.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

116 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the current situation regarding a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 who needs medication prescribed for him at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Dublin 15, but whose local general practitioner will not prescribe this medication on the medical card in view of the fact that the doctor claims that the medication is expensive and that he is acting on his Department's instructions in view of two previous direct inquiries to his Department in this regard; if the investigations regarding this person have been completed by his Department; if so, if his Department will reply to this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18442/97]

The matter referred to by the Deputy is under investigation by the Eastern Health Board following a complaint to the board by the person concerned. I have had inquiries made of the board and I understand that their investigations into this case are ongoing. I have asked the board to contact the Deputy directly as soon as their investigations are completed.
