262 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science whether a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for a computer at home or assisted to purchase a computer in view of the fact that he suffers from spina bifida and needs a computer to improve his education. [19259/97]
My Department operates a scheme for the provision of grants for second-level schools towards the purchase of equipment, including computers, for the use of pupils with certain disabilities. Under the terms of the scheme, a pupil may, with the consent of the board of management, use the equipment at home. A grant for the purchase of a computer for the use of the pupil in question has been made under this scheme to the school attended by the pupil.
