Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - MOT Testing.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

113 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give details of the charge which will be imposed on drivers for the cost of the MOT test in Ireland; and the way in which it compares with the charge in the United Kindgom and in other EU countries. [20798/97]

Car testing will be carried out at dedicated test centres under the control of a franchisee to be appointed on a national basis following a competitive tendering process. To minimise the cost to motorists, the level of fee to be charged will be one of the key criteria in the assessment of tender proposals. It is not possible, in advance of the tendering process, to indicate what the level of fee will be.
