140 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands whether her Department has issued or acts upon guidelines regarding the safe burial of animals listed under the Wildlife Act, 1976 in particular where the non burial of these animals increases the risk of disease. The Wildlife Act, 1976, makes no provision for the methods of disposal of carcases of animals listed under that Act. However, my Department has issued guidelines to its own staff in relation to same. The European Communities (Disposal, Processing and Placing on the Market of Animal By-Products) Regulations, 1994 (S. I. No. 257 of 1940) govern the disposal of animal carcases and by-products and are the responsibility of the Minister for Agriculture and Food.
