Vol. 483 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

155 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will expedite the delay in building phase two of Coláiste Pobail, Caisleán Cnucha, Baile Átha Cliath 15 in view of the fast growth of population in this area. [20880/97]

Stage two of architectural planning (outline sketch scheme) for the second phase of Castleknock community college is currently being prepared by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee's design team. When this has been received in my Department, the project will be progressed further without delay. It is not possible at this stage of planning to indicate when the project is likely to be ready for construction and completion. However, every effort will be made to expedite architectural planning so that construction can begin as speedily as possible.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

156 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if arrangements will be made to enable a delegation from the Cherry Orchard development council to view the plans for the proposed junior school in Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10; and, if not, if some form of appropriate consultation can be organised in this regard. [20881/97]

My Department's building unit has prepared sketch scheme drawings for the proposed new junior school at Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10. These drawings have been referred to the patron's local representative who has indicated that he is consulting widely in respect of the plans. The patron's representative has recently confirmed that he will shortly furnish a submission to my Department suggesting a number of possible alterations to the plans. As soon as my Department receives such a proposal the matter will be considered and the scheme may be altered as appropriate. The patron's representative has also undertaken to consult openly with all interested parties in the locality in due course.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

157 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Education and Science when phase two of Castleknock community college will be built; the amount of money the Government will make available for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20882/97]

Stage two of architectural planning (outline sketch scheme) for the second phase of Castleknock community college is currently being prepared by the County Dublin Vocational Education Committees design team. When this has been received in my Department, the project will be progressed further without delay. It is not possible at this stage of planning to indicate when the project is likely to be ready for construction. As the Deputy will appreciate, it would not be appropriate to reveal details of the estimated cost of the project in advance of tendering.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

158 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will fund the siting of a new vocational education committee school building at an alternative location owned by Dungarvan Urban District Council at the Presentation convent field, Dungarvan in view of the objections of local residents to the siting of the building at Ringasillogue, Dungarvan, County Waterford. [20883/97.

There are substantial cost implications in relocating the proposed new vocational education committee school for Dungarvan from the present site at Ringasillogue. In addition, the provision of the new school would be greatly delayed because of the necessity to accommodate the architectural plans to the new site. My Department is at present awaiting notification from the planning authorities of a decision in relation to planning permission. When this is available, the matter will be considered further.
