Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

67 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the current progress made in relation to sorting out the difficulties in the new National Museum premises at Collins Barracks, Dublin 7 particularly in relation to industrial relations matters; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20655/97]

Tógfaidh mé Ceisteanna Uimh. 17 agus Uimh 67 le chéile.

While the industrial action in the National Museum involving professional and technical staff represented by IMPACT, which I inherited on my appointment as Minister, is still not resolved, I am reasonably optimistic that proposals which have been put to IMPACT National Museum Branch representatives by the Caretaker Board of the National Museum, following discussions with officials of my Department, may lead to a resolution to this dispute in the near future. These proposals are being considered by the union at present and their response is awaited. Given the extremely sensitive stage we have now reached, I am certain that both Deputies will understand that it would not be prudent of me to go into more detail at this particular point in time.
