Vol. 483 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Relief.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

115 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W is entitled to claim rent against tax in view of the circumstances. [20887/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer has not submitted a claim for rent relief or mortgage interest relief. On the basis of the current information available, she is entitled to claim rent relief up to the maximum of £1,000 on rents paid for private rented accommodation up to date she purchased her main residence. From this date onwards the taxpayer is entitled to claim mortgage interest relief in respect of her principal private residence, up to the maximum of £2,500 for a first time buyer or £1,900 otherwise.
