Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Valuation Office Dispute.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

208 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Finance if the ongoing dispute in the Valuation Office will affect the amount of rates collected in the coming years; if his attention has been drawn to the gross unhappiness of the staff regarding their move to the Irish Life Centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21860/97]

The industrial action in the Valuation Office is causing some inconvenience but has no effect on the collection of rates by local authorities. I am, however, keeping the matter under review. I understand that some concerns have been expressed by staff in the Valuation Office concerning the proposed move to the Irish Life Centre although I am not aware that this amounts to gross unhappiness with the idea. I propose, however, to review what has been decided to see if these concerns can be alleviated. Arrangements for full consultation with staff about the matter have been in place since December 1996.
